The gaming notebook market has been getting a huge boost in demand of late. This is no surprise because notebook components have become incredibly thin, as well as more power efficient. This allows system manufacturers to produce gaming notebooks that are significantly thinner and lighter, but are still capable of delivering the same amount of performance you'd expect from a gaming notebook.

A prime example of a gaming notebook that's thin and light comes in the form of the Gigabyte P35W v2, which is equipped with some of the most powerful components in the market today. For starters, it's equipped with the 4th generation Intel Core i7-4710MQ, a high-end mobile processor that has four cores and a clock speed of 2.5GHz, which can be boosted up to 3.5GHz.

Apart from that, it comes with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 870M GPU, which offers toptier graphics performance. While it isn't the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900M series, this GPU is still a force to be reckoned with. This GPU comes with 6GB of RAM, which is more than sufficient to run the latest games.

Other features include 16GB of system RAM, a Full HD display, and storage that's handled by a combination of two 128GB SSDs in RAID 0 configuration, as well as a 1TB 5,400RPM HDD. In addition to this, this notebook also has a rather helpful feature – you can remove the optical disc drive and slot in a 2.5-inch SSD or HDD for additional storage.

In terms of performance, we first ran PCMark 8, where this notebook managed a score of 3,938 in the Creative suite and 3,216 in the Home suite. These scores indicate that it is a powerful notebook indeed. Apart from that, we also ran 3DMark Fire Strike, where a score of 4,267 was obtained on the standard settings, and 2,139 in Fire Strike Extreme. For some real-world testing, we fired up Crysis 3, at High settings and Full HD resolution. Here, the notebook managed an average of 28 FPS, which is very respectable. As for battery life, we managed to squeeze just about five hours of battery life in a typical day, which involved some word processing, web browsing and a little bit of full-on gaming.

Overall, the Gigabyte P35W v2 offers impressive performance. It's also relatively thin and light, making it a gaming notebook that's easy to recommend. However, this performance doesn't come cheap – the Gigabyte P35 retails for RM5,999.
