As the market demand for multimedia Bluetooth speaker continues to grow, we've also been reviewing a number of such speakers over the last couple issues. Of course, Edifier doesn't want to miss its chance to shine in this market and have introduced the M3280BT.
Aesthetics considered, the Edifier M3280BT looks like a typical 2.1-channel sound system that comes with a cube-shaped subwoofer and two satellite speakers. Similar to other Edifier's speaker systems, the subwoofer is entirely covered with highgrade black MDF wooden enclosures, and its drivers are protected by a black color net. The same design is also carried forward to the two 10-inch satellite speakers.
From the features aspect, all the ports can be found at the back of the subwoofer. There are two RCA inputs for users to connect multiple devices to this speaker at once, as well as two speaker outputs. Users can still control the system's bass and treble according to their tastes via the two physical knobs located at the back, and the volume buttons sitting in-line with the mute button on the side of the speaker.
We find it a bit skeptical when Edifier considers this a Bluetooth speaker as there are still many wires involved when we set up this speaker. However, setting up this speaker is quite simple, you need to plug in the color-coded wires to the subwoofer; pair the M3280BT with your smart device and you're one step away from music playback. For those without a Bluetooth device, you can still connect your devices to the speakers via a 3.5mm-to-RCA cable.
To test its sound performance, we connected the M3280BT speaker to a smartphone and played some of our favorite tunes from various genres. We found the mid and low registers distinctive, but the highs were confusing: during one of our tracks, we could barely hear the sound of cymbals and sometimes, it was indiscernible. Regarding its bass, the M3280BT is very generous as it delivers smooth bass performance with its 6.5-inch driver, which makes it an ideal replacement for your existing multimedia system and great for watching movies. Also, we tried to stream the music wirelessly to the speaker, and we're glad to say that its sound quality remains as listenable.
In conclusion, the M3280BT is a great 2.1-channel speaker that can replace your existing system as it delivers great sound quality, and is ideal for multimedia use.
