In 1974, Ca­sio in­tro­duced its very first dig­i­tal wrist­watch, the CA­SIOTRON. It fea­tured CMOS LSI tech­nol­ogy de­vel­oped from its suc­cess­ful elec­tronic cal­cu­la­tors, to pro­vide au­to­matic cal­en­dar func­tion­al­ity. As a com­put­er­ized fea­ture, you could tech­ni­cally call the CA­SIOTRON a “smart” watch. For the next 30 years, Ca­sio would de­velop dozens of mul­ti­func­tional dig­i­tal watches that can all be con­sid­ered the true fore­fa­thers of the mod­ern smart­watch.
