Tamron is known for its affordable zoom lenses. Now, the company is aiming to change that perception by announcing two prime lenses under the new SP series: the SP35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and the SP45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD. Both lenses offer fast constant aperture of f/1.8, proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization system, and compatibility with both full-frame and APS-C DSLR cameras.

From its aesthetics, we can tell that the design of its buttons and focus ring have been revamped to make them look more versatile and user-friendly. As a whole, both lenses are reminiscent of Sigma’s Art lenses.

Looking at the specifications from both lenses, they are actually very close in terms of focal length, with the SP35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD offering the closest focusing capability at 0.2m minimum object distance. It touts 10 elements in 9 groups, high-speed autofocus with USD (Ultra Silent Drive), 9-blade circular aperture, and moistureresistant construction. eBAND coating, on the other hand, helps improve control over flare and ghost images.

That said, the SP45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD is the world’s first fullframe prime standard lens to be equipped with image stabilization. Both lenses will be available starting from October 2015 with a recommended retail price of US$599 (approx. RM2,598).
