To use, all you need to do is remove it from the case and plug it to the ZenFone 2. The Micro-USB cable is coiled around it, so it’s short enough to not get in the way. You can either hold the module by hand, or stick the hook end of the Velcro strip onto the back cover of the ZenFone 2 and leave it there. Upon plugging it in, you will be prompted to download the dedicated camera app for it. From that point on, every time you plug in the ZenFlash to the ZenFone 2, the app will launch automatically.

In use, you don’t get as many settings to play with compared to the default camera. You’ll have to adjust the power of the flash manually by the distance between the ZenFone 2 and the subject of your photo.

The settings available to you are if you want the ZenFlash to fire when you snap, and the distance between you and the subject of your shot, which will affect the power of the flash.

This is how a shot in low light looks like with the default flash on the ZenFone 2…

… and this is with ZenFlash firing.

As the ZenFlash doesn’t have an internal battery, this is where it gets power from.
