TESTED & RATED A rangefinder by any other name has al­ways been the choice cam­era for the street pho­tog­ra­pher who fa­vor a cam­era that is portable, quiet, un­ob­tru­sive, fast to fo­cus, and has a bright lens. The Le­ica M se­ries has al­ways been one of the fa­vorites in this cat­e­gory, but it might have a com­pelling con­tender in the com­pact Le­ica Q (Type 116).

First, the sim­i­lar­i­ties; both the M and Q have a full-sized 24MP 35mm sen­sor, share the same sig­na­ture Le­ica look and feel, and are one of those cam­eras that are in the price range of: ‘If you have to ask, you can’t af­ford it’.

Per­ma­nently af­fixed to the Q is a gor­geous Sum­milux 28mm f/1.7 lens. The wide an­gle is very ver­sa­tile and is ideal as a com­pan­ion on a stroll around town. Sharp all through­out, the lens pro­duces
