FIRST DIGITAL TASKFORCE
ASOCIO and PIKOM Announced Formation of Dedicated Taskforce to Address Challenges and Concerns of the ASEAN Economic Community
The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) has appointed PIKOM as the region’s first dedicated ASOCIO ASEAN Economic Community Digital Taskforce (AADT). Comprising ICT leaders from various ASEAN member countries, the group is tasked to address ICT challenges of the ASEAN Economic Community.
“PIKOM has voiced the need for a specific team to look into AEC and we are glad to see this materialize today. Under the ASEAN ICT Master Plan 2015, ICT will continue to be a major driver in all aspects of AEC for the next few decades. The taskforce will solicit input from member countries and formulate papers for submission to ICANN, OECD, ASEAN and their respective governments on policy initiatives to spur growth,” said Cheah Kok Hoong, Chairman of PIKOM.
Meanwhile, PIKOM also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its Taiwanese counterpart – Information Service Industry (CISA), which will facilitate knowledge sharing, transfer of technology, business matching, as well as several bilateral inter-market ICT delegation visitations between the two countries.
“We are pleased to be building a bridge with CISA for the purpose of mutual support, learning and co-operation towards promoting the development of ICT in both economies. Malaysia can tap on Taiwan’s expertise in areas such as Internet of Things (IoT), technology miniaturization and many other emerging trends. Likewise, Malaysia also has plenty to offer Taiwan in ICT services,” added Cheah.
Both the announcement and the signing of the MoU took place at the ASOCIO PIKOM ICT Leadership Summit held from October 6 to 7, 2015.
