FUJIFILM instax mini 70
FUJIFILM’s instax series has been around for a long time, and is often the go-to choice for when you want instant printouts. The latest camera in this series is called the instax mini 70, which is a camera that’s targeted at the younger generation of photographers.
Unlike the other members in the instax mini series though, the mini 70 has got something up its sleeves to stand out – a Selfie mode. Realizing that a large majority of individuals in the world today love taking pictures of themselves, FUJIFILM has come up with a camera that has settings optimized for self-portraits.
Like most instax mini cameras, the mini 70 has a retractable lens system. It has a focal range of 60mm and can focus as close 0.3m, which is useful for macro shots. At the front, you’ll find the shutter button, a framing mirror and the integrated flash. Turn it around, and you’ll see a small monochrome display, the viewfinder, as well as buttons for power, mode switching, timer, and selfie taking.
In Selfie mode, the lens retracts slightly to give you a better angle of view. It also automatically adjusts the exposure to ensure everything is well-lit. To make snapping selfies easier, the shutter button is placed at the front, and you can use the timer mode in conjunction with the Selfie mode. As mentioned, there’s also a framing mirror at the front, making it easy to frame your shot.
When it comes to using the mini 70, all you have to do is compose and press the shutter button. You can also select the Hi-Key mode if the photos are a little to dark for your liking. As with other instax mini cameras though, you’ll want to be careful when attempting to go in close to your subject. The viewfinder system does not show what the lens ‘sees’, so framing can become tricky.
As for image quality, colors are vibrant and sharpness is respectable. When it comes to low-light environments though, you’ll want to find someway to diffuse the flash, because it tends to overexpose subjects a little.
Overall, the FUJIFILM instax mini 70 is fun and simple to use. The additional features are easy to figure out, and the Selfie mode will likely appeal to the younger generation.
