Huawei Claims Record Smart­phone Sales of US$20 Bil­lion

Huawei, the Chi­nese com­pany that pri­mar­ily deals with net­work­ing and busi­ness so­lu­tions, re­cently re­ported a record­break­ing growth in its Con­sumer Busi­ness Group divi­sion.

The Shen­zhen-based com­pany re­cently re­ported that its rev­enue stream had al­ready ex­ceeded US$20 bil­lion (ap­prox. RM88.1 bil­lion) by the end of 2015 last year. Huawei con­trib­uted this fac­tor to its smart­phone sales, which coin­ci­den­tally sur­passed the 108 mil­lion mark last year.

The mas­sive sales growth has un­doubt­edly helped the com­pany to ce­ment its po­si­tion as one of the top three smart­phone com­pa­nies glob­ally, as well as help­ing them hold the high­est mar­ket share in its coun­try of ori­gin since March 2015. This pits the com­pany squarely be­tween two of the main play­ers in the smart de­vice in­dus­try: Sam­sung and Ap­ple.

The smart­phone mod­els that helped pro­pel sales was none other than the Huawei P8, Huawei Mate S, and the com­pany's first-ever Google-cen­tric smart­phone, the Nexus 6P.

The Nexus 6P is es­sen­tially the phone that gave Huawei the break they needed to re­ally en­ter into the North Amer­i­can mar­ket, es­pe­cially af­ter many years of sus­pi­cion and ac­cu­sa­tions of espionage and gov­ern­men­tal sub­terfuge by the U.S. govern­ment. Not sur­pris­ingly, the phone was also well re­ceived by more than 60 dif­fer­ent coun­tries and re­gions, and was given the ‘Editor's Choice' awards by sev­eral pub­li­ca­tions around the world.
