Microsoft Releases Xbox Dev Mode Preview for the Xbox One
Ever wanted to do more than just play video games on your Xbox One console? Well, now you can, because Microsoft has finally launched the Xbox Dev Mode preview during the 2016 Build Developer Conference last month, which you can download right now, for free.
With the Xbox Dev Mode installed, you'll be able to build, test, and experiment with Universal Windows Program (UWP) right from your Xbox One, though you'll need to pay a fee of US$19 (approx. RM74) to create a Dev Center account, which will grant you a host of benefits, and the ability to submit your apps and add-ins to all of Microsoft's marketplaces, which include the Windows Store, Office Store, and Azure Marketplace.
Turning your Xbox One into a development kit couldn't be any simpler. Just download the Dev Mode activation app from the Xbox Games Store, launch it, read the list of requirements, agree to a couple of terms and conditions, and enter the code that will subsequently be given to you using your Dev Center account on your desktop PC. That's pretty much it.
But do bear in mind that the Xbox Dev Mode is still in its preview state, which means you might possibly encounter some bugs along the way. If you prefer playing it safe, you can always wait until the stable version becomes available this coming summer.
