Canon Launches EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM Lens
Canon's EOS M cameras may have previously lagged behind the competition, but that doesn't mean that the company is about the abandon the mirrorless platform. Not only has Canon launched the EOS M10, a brand new mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, but the company also launched a new lens specifically for the EOS M mount.
Known as the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM, this lens is particularly interesting because of its integrated LED lights. The LED lights are called miniature Macro Lite flash units, and there are two of them on this lens. Both flash units are curved, and located around the front element of the lens. You have the option to activate both units at the same time, or one at a time. There are also two brightness settings.
As for focusing capabilities, this lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.09m, and offers a maximum magnification of 1.2x. It uses a stepping motor focusing mechanism, so autofocus is not only quick, but silent as well.
The lens also makes use of hybrid IS technology, which is used in Canon's EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. This ensures a significant reduction in camera shake. In terms of optics, there are 11 elements in 10 groups. Pricing in the U.S. is estimated to be US$299.99, which translates to about RM1,210, though local pricing and availability remain to be confirmed.
The EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens has integrated LED lighting for better macro photography.
