4K TVs are becoming more affordable, but native 4K content is still fairly scarce today. This is all the more reason for us to produce our own 4K content, and one easy way to do so is to use the Sony AX40 4K Handycam.

While a camcorder may not be the first thing that comes to mind for videos, it does make more sense to use one of these, instead of a DSLR or your smartphone. A DSLR may be too complicated for some, while image quality from most smartphones leave much to be desired.

The AX40 is part of the latest Handycam lineup from Sony, and it's equipped with hardware and features that make it incredibly easy to take high-quality videos. For a start, it has a 16.6MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, so you're all set in the image quality department. Apart from that, there is Sony's Balanced Optical SteadyShot technology onboard, which actually shifts the entire lens and sensor modules for even steadier footage. To top it all off, it can even record 5.1-channel surround sound. Needless to say, it also records in 4K resolution.

As with most camcorders, the AX40 can be held comfortably and operated with the right hand. The zoom button is located at the top, within reach of your index finger, while the record button is found at the rear, and is accessible using your thumb. It's light, so you definitely won't have issues recording for extended periods of time. Speaking of which, the battery lasts for about an hour and 45 minutes on average, so you definitely would be able to record a good amount of footage before the battery runs out.

Accessing the various settings and functions is also very easy, thanks to the responsive touch display and lag-free user interface. What's cool here is that you can do some basic video editing – such as snipping and adding transitions – all from within the menu!

Performance-wise, the AX40 is incredibly easy to use, and all you need to do is turn it on, point it at your subject(s), and press the record button. The camcorder takes care of focusing, exposure settings, and image stabilization automatically. While on the subject, one of the cool things you can do with this camcorder is enable art filters in videos, so yes, you can create noir videos ala Sin City, if you so desire.

In a nutshell, the AX40 is easy to use, has excellent image quality, and allows you to record great videos without thinking too much. If you're in the market for a camcorder, the Sony AX40 4K Handycam ought to be on your list. by
