Shop smart with ShopBack

ShopBack to make shop­ping eas­ier with AWS CloudSearch ser­vice.

On­line shop­ping com­pany ShopBack has be­gun us­ing the new CloudSearch ser­vice from Ama­zon Web Ser­vices (AWS) in or­der to en­hance the on­line shop­ping ex­pe­ri­ence for its cus­tomers.

Specif­i­cally, ShopBack sub­scribed to AWS’ Elas­tic Stack and X-Pack clus­ter pack­age, which are con­sid­ered the pre­mium pack­age of its ser­vice. Af­ter ob­tain­ing as­sis­tance from the AWS Elas­tic team in im­ple­ment­ing the clus­ters, the com­pany then re­ported sig­nif­i­cant im­prove­ments in its per­for­mance, tak­ing con­sumers as short as one mil­lisec­ond for any search, and just four sec­onds when pulling up store list­ings.

“We’ve mi­grated from Elas­tic­search 2.4 to 5.0 and not only has per­for­mance im­proved but we now have a schema for multi-coun­try, multi-lin­gual search. This has aided our ex­pan­sion into In­done­sia and Tai­wan where we sup­port lo­cal lan­guages,” said Al­berto, Resco Perez, Engi­neer­ing Man­ager at ShopBack.

ShopBack also re­cently im­ple­mented a new clus­ter of the Elas­tic Stack to sim­plify log­ging and met­ric col­lec­tion. In the past, ShopBack had used Paper­trail, AWS Cloud Watch and New Relic to col­lect and an­a­lyze var­i­ous met­rics. How­ever, the com­bi­na­tion of all three so­lu­tions made it ex­pen­sive and com­plex to scale.

“In the past, we had lim­ited vis­i­bil­ity into our en­vi­ron­ment. The Elas­tic Stack and ad­di­tional mon­i­tor­ing and alert­ing ca­pa­bil­i­ties of the X-Pack has re­solved that and helps us to de­tect and re­solve is­sues so much faster,” said Al­berto. “It also helps us to an­a­lyze user be­hav­ior so we can scale our sys­tems and meet de­mand.”
