With 4K content becoming increasingly common, it may be a good idea to upgrade your monitor. But the fact remains that 4K monitors easily cost upward of RM2,000. For the next best thing, you can opt for a QHD (2,560 x 1440) monitor like the ViewSonic VX3209-2K.

What we have with the VX3209-2K is 31.5-inches worth of display area, flicker-free and blue light filtering technology, and multiple color profiles that are optimized for different content types. On paper, this monitor looks highly impressive, but there are some caveats to consider.

The first thing you ought to know about the VX3209-2K is that it has a refresh rate of 60Hz and a response time of 8ms. This translates into pretty slow performance for those who fancy games with lots of fast action, like any first-person shooters. With that said, if you're a casual gamer, you'd probably be content with the 60Hz refresh rate.

Those thinking of primarily getting this monitor to enjoy movies, you'll want to ensure that your content is indeed 4K in resolution, as we detected some noticeable pixels when viewing Full HD videos.

Next up, we scrutinize the color accuracy of the VX3209-2K, where it demonstrated decent performance. With a color accuracy of about 72 percent of NTSC, this monitor won’t likely be the top choice of graphics designers or digital content creators, but for most users, this proves to be sufficient.

The monitor also has a number of different color profiles, including 'Game', 'Movie', 'Web', 'Text', and 'Mono'. Each profile automatically adjusts the monitor's brightness, white balance and contrast to give you the best viewing experience. Sadly, this brings us to one of this monitor's largest flaws – its brightness. Even at maximum level, the overall image appears somewhat dull, so those of you who are planning to use this monitor in a bright environment, you may want to consider alternatives.

Last but not least, let's talk about the design of the VX3209-2K. Its bezels are 8.9mm thin, and in terms of connectivity, there are one HDMI, one VGA, and one DisplayPort option, so you're pretty much covered. However, the stand is not adjustable, so taller users will likely have to tilt your head downwards ever so slightly.

In a nutshell, the VX3209-2K is a large IPS display that offers respectable performance, and will likely meet the demands of most users.

Color accuracy aside, the VX3209-2K is a QHD monitor that's great for multimedia content.

The color accuracy could be better.
