So there you have it, AMD’s Ryzen 7 1800X. At an SRP of RM2,599, the CPU is still very much a pre­mium priced pro­ces­sor, but it’s still an arm and a leg cheaper than what is be­ing of­fered by its ri­val (even af­ter the re­cent price cuts). It’s the first proper CPU that AMD has made in a while, but more im­por­tantly, it’s also the first real ma­jor com­peti­tor to ac­tu­ally pro­vide a chal­lenge for In­tel, core for core, thread for thread. Sure, the CPU still has some per­for­mance is­sues, but that’s a given for any­thing new, and frankly, it’s only a mat­ter of time be­fore AMD pushes hot­fixes and driv­ers that will patch these up.
