D-Link Omna (DSH-C310)
The thing about most home security cameras is that they can be easily spotted from a mile away, simply because they’re always predictably mounted on the ceiling in the far corner of a room.
Instead of sticking out like a sore thumb, the Omna is able to blend in perfectly with the décor of your home, courtesy of its sleek aluminum housing and inconspicuous design.
But contrary to what its modern, sophisticated design might suggest, we managed to get the Omna up and running in a matter of minutes. All we literally had to do, was to hook it up to its power adapter, wait for the LED indicator on its front to blink orange, download the
Omna companion app onto our iPhone, and pair it up with the camera using the 8-digit code located in the quick-start guide. While we hate to be the bearer of bad news, we should probably mention that the Omna is only compatible with Apple devices running on iOS 10.1 and above, as one of its headlining features is its ability to integrate with Apple's smart home platform, HomeKit.
The video quality of the
You can’t fault the stellar video quality and modern aesthetics of the Omna.
Omna is pretty impressive for a home security camera. Forget all the frustratingly grainy, fuzzy, and monochromatic security camera videos that you might’ve grown accustomed to – the Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) video stream of the Omna is remarkably crisp, sharp, and vibrant, even during lowlight conditions.
Despite having an extensive 180-degree viewing angle, you would be pleasantly surprised that barrel distortion – a common and often times distracting characteristic of wide-angle lenses – isn’t an issue on the Omna. Only towards the edges of the frame will you notice a slight curvature in straight lines, but it’s nothing too drastic.
Intruders sneaking around your home under the cover of darkness are bound to have a rude awakening, as the Omna is readily equipped with infrared LEDs that will allow you to see in complete darkness for distances of up to 16 feet. What’s more, you can even tell them that Big Brother is watching their every move, as the Omna has an integrated microphone and speaker for two-way communication.
The user interface of the Omna app is incredibly easy to comprehend.
