The future is in software
It’s the second half of 2017, which means we’re that much closer to getting hold of the iPhone 8 and Galaxy Note 8. While both Apple and Samsung are reportedly facing difficulty incorporating an on-display fingerprint sensor on their respective flagship devices, there’s a chance the smartphone rivals may be beaten to the punch by Chinese manufacturer vivo, as a brief video surfaced on Weibo of a working prototype in action. It’ll be interesting to see how the iPhone 8 and Galaxy Note 8 perform when they are revealed in the coming months.
Our cover story for this issue concerns a trio of developer conferences that took place consecutively from May to June (page 46, ‘Google, Apple, Microsoft: In a future that lies in software, who’s got the better tech?’), followed by a feature on mesh networking (page 54, ‘Redefining Wi-Fi at home’), and a roundup of interesting announcements from Asia’s largest ICT tradeshow (page 60, ‘COMPUTEX 2017: Building global technology ecosystems’). As for GAX, we dished out our very own E3 2017 awards, along with reviews that will please fighting game fans.
