The Huawei P10 Plus looks quite similar to Apple’s iPhone 7, with a sandblasted matte aluminum finish. The sides and corners are rounded, with a subtle chamfered edge. On the rear, the dual camera configuration sits under a glass strip at the top of the phone, and is perfectly flush with the back of the phone.

The P10 Plus has a 5.5-inch QHD LCD display. As a nice touch, the P10 Plus comes with a factory-fitted plastic screen protector on top of the Gorilla Glass panel.

Below the display, there’s a fingerprint scanner that also doubles up as the phone’s navigation keys. A soft tap takes you back by one step, while a long hold would bring you to the Home screen. Swiping sideways will show you all your running apps. It’s a different approach from the usual Android navigation keys, but quite intuitive and easy to use.

The standout feature of the P10 Plus is its dual rear camera setup, which has been co-developed with German camera maestros Leica. On the rear, you get one 12MP camera with an RGB sensor, and one 20MP camera with a monochrome sensor. Both cameras utilize a bright f/1.8 aperture lens and include optical image stabilization, as well as phase detection and laser autofocus. In usage, the P10 Plus displays good control over color, and accurate white balance. Outdoor shooting is the P10 Plus’ strongest suit, while its biggest challenge tends to be contrast handling. There’s a new artistic mode that allows for digitally bokeh-ed shots, but the artificial halo that comes with the bokeh effect can be a bit hit-or-miss. The Leica-like interface within the camera app also contributes to the positive shooting experience.

The P10 Plus runs on Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 960 octa-core processor. Huawei has upgraded the SoC from last year’s 950 with ‘18 percent better CPU efficiency and 40 percent better graphics performance’, although the overall performance is still closer to a Snapdragon 820 than that of a Snapdragon 835. The P10 Plus uses a huge 3,750mAh and is compatible with Huawei’s own SuperCharge fast-charge technology, which will get it to 50-percent charge in just 30 minutes.
