‘Hack­ing up’ the cus­tomers

RHB holds sec­ond Fin­tech Hackathon for more than 230 dig­i­tal en­thu­si­asts.

Back in July, the RHB Bank­ing Group (RHB) held its sec­ond Fin­tech Hackathon event with Star­tup­boot­camp (SBC) Fin­tech here in Kuala Lumpur.

The event at­tracted more than 230 dig­i­tal and tech­nol­ogy-savvy in­di­vid­u­als, both from the fi­nan­cial ser­vices sec­tor and non-fi­nan­cial back­grounds. At the event, all the in­di­vid­u­als were en­cour­aged to work to­gether in or­der to help RHB cre­ate so­lu­tions that could de­liver a su­pe­rior cus­tomer ex­pe­ri­ence in dig­i­tal bank­ing.

The hackathon was also a chance for RHB to show those who were present that the bank­ing cor­po­ra­tion was at­tempt­ing to reimag­ine the way fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions could en­gage both dig­i­tally savvy cus­tomers and more tra­di­tional cus­tomers through dig­i­tal bank­ing. Dur­ing the event, par­tic­i­pants were given 48 hours to gen­er­ate ideas on how to seam­lessly in­te­grate cus­tomers’ bank­ing needs with their dig­i­tal so­cial lives.

“Key to de­liv­er­ing su­pe­rior cus­tomer ex­pe­ri­ences is in­no­va­tion, which is best achieved through col­lab­o­ra­tion and lever­ag­ing on strengths within and out­side of RHB, mak­ing this one of the main ob­jec­tives of this hackathon,” Ro­han Kr­ish­nalingam, RHB Bank­ing Group’s Chief Dig­i­tal, Tech­nol­ogy and Op­er­a­tions Of­fi­cer said. “In this dig­i­tal age, cus­tomers are in­creas­ingly ex­pect­ing a sim­ple, fast and seam­less user ex­pe­ri­ence that is mo­bile, flex­i­ble and en­gag­ing. Fi­nan­cial tech­nol­ogy (Fin­tech) will help us be­come a fi­nan­cial part­ner that of­fers holis­tic and com­pre­hen­sive so­lu­tions.”
