concluSion Pair a great product with great pricing, and you’ll get the BackBeat 505.

Headphones are considered a necessity nowadays. They are the difference between keeping yourself occupied and complete boredom. When you put them on, you're just closed off from the world. The BackBeat 505 from Plantronics is a pair of wireless headphones that works great as you strut down the street and pretend you're in a music video, without worrying about wires getting tangled and ruining your dance party for one.

It is very easy for you to get carried away when listening on these headphones, as a single charge can give you up to 18 hours of music playback and talk time, but we feel like it could exceed that estimate. This is largely due to DeepSleep technology, a hibernation mode that allows the headphones to retain battery charge for up to six months, even when it’s left on. The BackBeat 505 is paired wirelessly via Bluetooth, and can connect up to two devices simultaneously, while also being able to pair up to eight devices. The wireless range of the headphones can extend up to 10 meters.

When you power on the 40mm driver headphones, you will be greeted by a voice that states the level of battery life. You may also press and hold the Call button to find out. To get a more specific battery life reading, you would need to download the Plantronics mobile app, available as a free download on the iOS App Store and Google Play. A full charge will take two and a half hours, but we doubt you will need to charge it often.

The BackBeat 505 features memory-foam ear cushions, which minimize external sound from the outside world as you put them on. As it does not offer active noise canceling capability, the ear cushions are the closest you'll get to one. We did experience a minor discomfort with our ears when taking off the headphones after prolonged listening, but your mileage may vary.

In terms of audio quality, we found that the headphones convey all aspects of a track well. The vocal and highs were pleasant. However, in some songs, the bass appears to be slightly overpowered by the highs. Phone conversations sound just as clear and crisp as you’d expect. Furthermore, there are on-ear controls for pausing and skipping between tracks, in addition to increasing or decreasing the volume. The headphones also allow you to speak to your favorite voice assistants, like Cortana and Siri.

All in all, the Plantronics BackBeat 505 packs decent features, and is downright affordable at RM399.

The BackBeat 505 is incredibly lightweight and easy to carry around.
