SES’ O3b mPOWER satellite-based system primed for 2021 launch.
SES recently revealed O3b mPOWER, a powerful and highly scalable satellite-based network that is slated to launch in 2021. The O3b mPOWER will reportedly be capable of delivering multiple terabits of throughput to connect people, communities, and businesses from all around the world. This, in turn, will enable SES Networks to provide services in the dynamic mobility, fixed data, and government markets.
Boeing Satellite Systems was named first technology partner by SES to construct seven super-powered medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites. The set-up will comprise 30,000 beams that can be shaped, steered, switched, and shifted in real time, which means its coverage will span almost 400 million square kilometers. In addition to the 12 MEO satellites that provide high-throughput low latency connectivity, SES will also launch eight more MEO satellites in 2018 and 2019.
Partners behind O3b mPOWER will invest in ground infrastructure that fuse computing, routing and storage resources with software intelligence, alongside applicationspecific antennas, as well as the introduction of an easy-to-setup O3b mPOWER Customer Edge Terminal.
