Hennessey Venom F5

Supercars have become faster over the years, but the goal of 300mph still eludes them. Bugatti wants to have a crack at it with its new Chiron, but only after it gets its tires sorted out. The loads at 300mph would be devastating, and no one is sure if the Bugatti’s tires can withstand the forces at that speed.

John Hennessey, however, believes that the Venom F5 will be able to hit the 300mph mark quite easily. There are two reasons for that. The first is power. The Venom F5 will be powered by a specially developed 7.4-liter V8 with two turbochargers. It develops 1,600hp and an earth-shattering 1,762nm of torque. Coupled with its low drag coefficient, Hennessey says the Venom F5 will hit 186mph (300km/h) in under 10 seconds and that its top speed is 301mph (485km/h).

The second reason is that the Venom F5 is not subjected to the same tire restrictions as the Bugatti Chiron. Because it is a significantly lighter car, it also means that its tires will experience fewer forces at high speeds. According to Hennessey, his calculations indicate that the Venom F5 will not overload its tires even at the extreme speeds that he is targeting. The Venom F5 will attempt a top speed run sometime next year.
