The Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the cost for the proposed group insurance scheme covering all hawkers and small traders in Malaysia will be borne by the government. The group insurance scheme was proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. There are several types of protection for traders which include cover accidents, fatal accidents and other accidents where the trader has lost his ability to work. Additionally, under this scheme, a daily allowance will be issued to traders during their stay in hospital. This is important because when a trader suffers an accident and is admitted to hospital, he/she will not be able to work.
