MII Mem­ber­ship Visit to MAS - KLIA En­gi­neer­ing & Main­te­nance Cen­tre


MII Mem­ber­ship has once again or­gan­ised an­other ex­cit­ing and in­for­ma­tive learn­ing op­por­tu­nity through its one-day visit to the largest Main­te­nance, Re­pair and Over­haul provider in the world, the MAS En­gi­neer­ing & Main­te­nance Cen­tre at KLIA. The MAS En­gi­neer­ing & Main­te­nance fa­cil­ity at KLIA is the first pur­pose-built han­gar in South East Asia for the main­te­nance, re­pair and over­haul of both wide bod­ied and nar­row bod­ied air­craft. This gi­gan­tic han­gar cov­ers 23,215 square me­tres and took 24 months to build. It is manned by highly skilled and trained engi­neers and tech­ni­cians. Ser­vices pro­vided by MAS En­gi­neer­ing in­clude air­frame main­te­nance and mod­i­fi­ca­tion, AOG (ground) sup­port, com­po­nent and engine main­te­nance and sup­port, spe­cialised en­gi­neer­ing ser­vices as well as train­ing and con­sul­tancy.

The well-equipped en­gi­neer­ing fa­cil­ity lo­cated both in Sepang (KLIA) and Subang (SZB), manned by ex­ten­sively trained and highly skilled per­son­nel man­i­fests MAS En­gi­neer­ing and Main­te­nance’s com­mit­ment to ex­cel in its op­er­a­tions. Ex­pan­sion of ca­pac­ity over the last 10 years has re­sulted in 18 bays for wide body and nar­row body air­craft within 6 hangars, spread over an area of 120 thou­sand square me­ters, and close to 5.0 mil­lion com­mer­cial air­frame main­te­nance man-hours, mak­ing it one of the largest MRO providers in the world. The fa­cil­ity is not open to the pub­lic. There­fore, the first 40 MII mem­bers to reg­is­ter were cho­sen to get first-hand knowl­edge on the var­i­ous ser­vices pro­vided by MAS—KLIA En­gi­neer­ing & Main­te­nance Cen­tre cou­pled with an en­gag­ing ex­pe­ri­ence by MAS ex­perts and per­son­nel. On this trip, the par­tic­i­pants were able to ex­pe­ri­ence and un­der­stand the ser­vices pro­vided by MAS—KLIA En­gi­neer­ing & Main­te­nance Cen­tre, iden­ti­fied the risk ex­po­sures in avi­a­tion en­gi­neer­ing and im­proved their un­der­stand­ing of avi­a­tion risks in gen­eral.
