Para­graph 4: Util­i­sa­tion of the orig­i­nal and re­in­state­ment of sum in­sured

This para­graph deals with two sce­nar­ios (see il­lus­tra­tions B and C be­low) un­der sub-para­graphs (a) and (b) as fol­lows: (a) In­com­plete (par­tial) util­i­sa­tion of the orig­i­nal sum in­sured

and (b) Re­in­state­ment of fully utilised orig­i­nal sum in­sured

(re­in­stated sum in­sured) dur­ing the cur­rency of this pe­riod (“the re­main­ing pol­icy pe­riod”). This para­graph is de­signed to “con­tinue to pro­vide this ben­e­fit… dur­ing the cur­rency of this pe­riod” (the re­main­ing pol­icy pe­riod) “for the amount as stated above” ( the orig­i­nal sum in­sured or re­in­stated sum in­sured) (em­pha­sis added):

“(a) Less any claim paid… for the re­pair;” or “(b) For the re­in­stated orig­i­nal amount pro­vided you have paid to us a fur­ther ad­di­tional pre­mium for re­in­state­ment.” Para­graph 4 (a) In­com­plete (par­tial) util­i­sa­tion of the orig­i­nal sum in­sured The word “re­pair” is not de­fined in the pol­icy proper. Ac­cord­ingly, the com­mon and or­di­nary mean­ing of this word as de­fined in the dic­tionar­ies shall be con­sid­ered by virtue of the con­tra pref­er­entem rule.
