Fitness First member Youli Hooi shares with us her experience with the centre's personal trainers. I recalled sitting at the foothill of the majestic Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, I knew I had to overcome my own fear – the fear of not being able to reach the summit. It was then I started sharing my goal with my personal trainer, Jeck (Master Trainer – Fitness First at

Platinum 1 Mont’ Kiara). Initially I was reluctant to climb simply because I have two weak knees from being “born with imperfect knees”, said the sports physician. My knees are said to be double my age, hence there are limitations to what I can or cannot do. Jeck was very patient with me and charted a training programme to help me achieve my goals. Training was progressive; we prioritise on improving strength and endurance due to the long hours of hiking. He also included stamina training using equipment such as skierg and rower. Training was never easy, it took discipline and effort to make it work. It also depends on your training day – if you sleep right, eat well and consume the right amount of nutrition. Besides gym training, I complemented it with outdoor hikes at our city's hills, including Gasing Hill and Ketumbar Hill. The personal training has helped me in two areas – my fitness and confidence level. Reaching the top of Mount Kinabalu was a bittersweet experience I would never forget. Nothing beats being above the clouds at sunrise. It was difficult but my personal training journey with Jeck has helped prepared me. Share your goals with your personal trainer. They will help and guide you to achieve them. Have discipline, stick to your training schedules if you want to see results. Last but not least, pay attention to your food intake.
