Editor’s Letter
How often do you hear, ‘the year passed by so quickly!’ And it certainly feels that way, specially for 2018. It really has been an eventful year for our country, as we heralded a new government— an incredible feat that showed the power and will of our people. And to the nine dynamic individuals featured in our Reflections section (page 148), 2018 has been an exceptional one, having overcome challenges and experienced milestones in their life and career.
So let’s take a leaf from their book, take stock and reflect on the year that has passed. Have goals been met, new achievements been unlocked and did you learn anything new? Only then can you set new goals for the next year, and the steps needed to achieve them.
In every Society magazine that we roll out each year, we present a veritable list of the most powerful and influential people shaping our country. We have also compiled a roundup of the top parties throughout the year, society’s most invited and the city’s most fashionable. It’s not easy to be accepted into the upper echelons of society, and so we’ve asked several individuals, people that wield a certain amount of influence, to dish some advice on party etiquette and the art of dressing. Good to know if you’re looking to make an impression at these high society events.
Do also keep your eyes peeled for the glamorous pictorial of Asia’s Most Stylish Women (page 118), each handpicked by Tatler’s eight Asian titles for exemplifying the very definition of style. Sometime last October, we sent our very own Datin Dian Lee to represent Malaysia and join her fellow Tatler awardees, for a sensational photo shoot experience at the futuristic Zaha Hadiddesigned Morpheus hotel in Macau. Her three days there left her gushing about the entire experience, which you can very well read about in our behind-the-scenes exclusive with her (page 138).
Well 2018, you’ve been great, but now we’re more than ready to welcome 2019 with open arms. To start with, take a peek at the slew of events in store for the year to satisfy your wanderlust. We’ve done the preliminaries, now the rest is up to you.
