Los Angeles-based Ukranian makeup artist Vlada Haggerty is best known for her jaw-dropping 3D liquid lip art looks, and has over 800,000 followers on Instagram (and counting). In early April this year, Smashbox Cosmetics signed her on board as the brand’s new lip editor-in-chief in an 18-month contract, where she’ll be responsible for all things lip-related, including selecting the colours for upcoming products, forecasting trends, creating new lip looks and filming step-by-step lip art tutorials. Together with Jewellery Designer, Zoe Chicco, Haggerty created a gilded and diamond-encrusted lip design, which earned them the Guinness World Record for The Most Valuable Lip Art. The extravagant look took one whole hour to create, and involved the use of over 6.5 carats and 80 diamonds provided by Chicco. By the end of it, the final look was worth a whopping $26,500 (about RM113,000). Haggerty created the look using Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal in Crimson Chrome and Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstic in Bawse as a base, before applying gold foil and jewellery on top. For her first project as lip editor, Haggerty was largely responsible for the launch of Smashbox’s new Legendary Liquid Metal and Pigment lip gels, which are available in Sephora Malaysia. “We definitely took a very artistic approach with the campaign, (but) there are a lot of very wearable colours,” said Haggerty. She also vouches for its excellent colour payoff as she’s a stickler for highly opaque lip products. “It’s the new generation of lip products. I would describe them as a hybrid between a liquid lipstick and a lip gloss. You get the pigmentation of a liquid lipstick and the shine and hydration of a lip gloss,” explained Haggerty.
