Self-proclaimed lip art mermaid, Ryan Kelly was catapulted to Instagram fame in 2015 when she posted a goofy photo of her interpretation of ‘Left Shark’ (a character from Katy Perry’s Superbowl halftime show) on her account. “It went crazy. People loved it and a couple of people called it lip art in the comments. I’d never heard of lip art at the time, so I browsed the hashtag. It was sort of like nail art, but on your lips. From there I thought “well, let’s see what else I can do.” That’s how it started.” said Kelly. Two years later, Kelly has now gathered a following of over 70,000 on Instagram. Her feed is an incredible library of weird and whacky lip art creations. From lips painted like donuts and laced with frosting to watercolour French impressionist landscapes, you can browse through her feed for hours and be inspired by each and every one of her pictures. For more wearable forms of lip art however, Kelly recommends the ombré trend. “(Also) liquid lipstick is the best thing ever, and that translates over to brides because they’re always looking for something that’s long-wearing,” she added.
