DESIGNER DRIVES CHANGE IN INDIA WITH MAGIC BUS
In a bid to give back to those who create the intricate embroidery on her designs and gowns, Marchesa fashion designer Georgina Chapman joined forces with Magic Bus in 2014. Prioritising children’s education in India, Chapman put her efforts into Mankhurd, a suburb in eastern Mumbai. “We train local people to teach and mentor so it’s not an outsider coming in and telling them what to do,” the designer explained. Thus far, the successful programme has yielded an increase in participation rate from 438 to nearly 2,500. India holds a special place in Chapman’s heart – the idea of her brand Marchesa was sparked during a trip to the country in her teenage years.
