Mathematics teacher pleads not guilty to hurting pupil
APRIMARY school teacher was charged at the magistrate’s court yesterday with voluntarily causing hurt to a pupil last year. Siti Noorhidayani Mohd Salamu, 27, pleaded not guilty to causing hurt to a 9year-old girl in Class 3 Kejora, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kelana, Jalan SS5B/3, near here, at 8.10am on June 16.
She was a mathematics teacher at the school when the offence was allegedly committed. It was learnt that she had twisted the pupil’s ear.
Noorhidayani was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
She was accompanied to the court by her husband and sister.
Deputy public prosecutor Natashah Chin urged the court to impose a bail of RM1,500 with one surety.
Counsel Mohd Fadhly Yaacob, in seeking a lower bail for his client, said teachers faced many responsibilities and challenges.
“My client is married to a teacher and has a 7-month-old child. She now teaches Bahasa Malaysia at a school in Putrajaya.” He suggested a bail of RM1,000. Magistrate Datin Fadzlin Suraya Datuk Md Suah set bail at RM1,500 with one surety and fixed April 7 for mention.
