Math­e­mat­ics teacher pleads not guilty to hurt­ing pupil

APRIMARY school teacher was charged at the mag­is­trate’s court yes­ter­day with vol­un­tar­ily caus­ing hurt to a pupil last year. Siti Noorhi­dayani Mohd Salamu, 27, pleaded not guilty to caus­ing hurt to a 9year-old girl in Class 3 Ke­jora, Seko­lah Ke­bangsaan Sri Ke­lana, Jalan SS5B/3, near here, at 8.10am on June 16.

She was a math­e­mat­ics teacher at the school when the of­fence was al­legedly com­mit­ted. It was learnt that she had twisted the pupil’s ear.

Noorhi­dayani was charged un­der Sec­tion 323 of the Pe­nal Code, which car­ries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon con­vic­tion.

She was ac­com­pa­nied to the court by her hus­band and sis­ter.

Deputy pub­lic pros­e­cu­tor Natashah Chin urged the court to im­pose a bail of RM1,500 with one surety.

Coun­sel Mohd Fadhly Yaa­cob, in seek­ing a lower bail for his client, said teach­ers faced many re­spon­si­bil­i­ties and chal­lenges.

“My client is mar­ried to a teacher and has a 7-month-old child. She now teaches Ba­hasa Malaysia at a school in Pu­tra­jaya.” He sug­gested a bail of RM1,000. Mag­is­trate Datin Fad­zlin Su­raya Datuk Md Suah set bail at RM1,500 with one surety and fixed April 7 for men­tion.
