Darul Ta’zim close in on Pahang
AHMAD Hazwan Bakri reignited Darul Ta’zim’s Super League title challenge by scoring twice in the defending champions’ 3-2 win over leaders Pahang at Larkin yesterday.
After Matheus Alves gave Pahang a 15th-minute lead, Hazwan scored in quick succession in the first half before Safiq Rahim added another after the break with Alves reducing the arrears midway through the half.
The win took Darul Ta’zim up to third on 14 points, just two points behind Pahang, who have played a game more, and a point behind Kedah, who can go top by beating Malacca today.
Alves capitalised on a wayward Junior Eldstal pass to open the scoring after 14 minutes but Hazwan drew Darul Ta’zim level in the 30th minute after firing in the rebound when Pahang keeper Wan Azraie Wan Teh stopped Safiq’s penalty kick.
Hazwan struck again six minutes later to put the hosts 2-1 ahead with a fine finish after being put through by Safiq, who got on the scoresheet in the 56th minute after steering in a low drive from S. Kunanlan’s cutback for 3-1.
Brazillian Alves brought Pahang back into the contest with a thumping strike from distance which hit the underside of the bar for his eighth league goal in the 67th minute.
