Darul Ta’zim close in on Pa­hang

AH­MAD Hazwan Bakri reignited Darul Ta’zim’s Su­per League ti­tle chal­lenge by scor­ing twice in the de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons’ 3-2 win over lead­ers Pa­hang at Larkin yes­ter­day.

Af­ter Matheus Alves gave Pa­hang a 15th-minute lead, Hazwan scored in quick suc­ces­sion in the first half be­fore Safiq Rahim added an­other af­ter the break with Alves re­duc­ing the ar­rears mid­way through the half.

The win took Darul Ta’zim up to third on 14 points, just two points be­hind Pa­hang, who have played a game more, and a point be­hind Kedah, who can go top by beat­ing Malacca today.

Alves cap­i­talised on a way­ward Ju­nior Eld­stal pass to open the scor­ing af­ter 14 min­utes but Hazwan drew Darul Ta’zim level in the 30th minute af­ter fir­ing in the re­bound when Pa­hang keeper Wan Azraie Wan Teh stopped Safiq’s penalty kick.

Hazwan struck again six min­utes later to put the hosts 2-1 ahead with a fine fin­ish af­ter be­ing put through by Safiq, who got on the score­sheet in the 56th minute af­ter steer­ing in a low drive from S. Ku­nan­lan’s cut­back for 3-1.

Brazil­lian Alves brought Pa­hang back into the con­test with a thump­ing strike from dis­tance which hit the un­der­side of the bar for his eighth league goal in the 67th minute.
