New Straits Times - - News -

Fifty non-governmental organisations (NGOs) gathered at the Muar Stadium here yesterday to voice their support for Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

The NGOs, under the banner of Majlis Penyelaras Gabungan NGO Melayu Negeri Johor (Gabung Johor), condemned Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s alleged meddling in the state’s administration.

Gabung Johor vice-president Abdullah Md Yusof said the former prime minister should not question the way the state government was run.

“During his administration, there were a lot of wrongdoings that Dr Mahathir either ignored or covered up.”

Abdullah and some 100 people representing the NGOs gathered at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim here, holding banners supporting Sultan Ibrahim and condemning Dr Mahathir.

He said it was during the former prime minister’s administration that the power of the Malay rulers were curbed.

“He (Dr Mahathir) is meddling in the state’s affairs and going against the wishes of Sultan Ibrahim. The people of Johor will always stand behind our ruler. He is not welcome in Johor.”

Abdullah said the NGOs in Johor had lodged 115 police reports against Dr Mahathir.

“I urge the police to take action against Dr Mahathir, even though he is a former prime minister. We will continue to lodge reports until action is taken against him.”

He said Gabung Johor would organise a bigger gathering at the same venue if no action was taken against the former prime minister.
