Padi farmer who ran amok gets 5 years’ jail, rotan

A padi farmer was sen­tenced by the Ses­sions Court here yes­ter­day to five years’ jail and one stroke of the rotan for six of­fences, in­clud­ing vol­un­tar­ily caus­ing hurt to a po­lice­man, when he ran amok in Jan­uary.

Mohd Nizam Mat Saad, 39, from Be­hor Empiang, pleaded guilty to all six charges be­fore judge Azman Abu Has­san.

Deputy pub­lic pros­e­cu­tor Mohd Am­ril Jo­hari pros­e­cuted while Nizam was rep­re­sented by lawyer Zuhair Ah­mad Zakuan.

It was re­ported that on Jan 25, Nizam had run amok when po­lice­men ar­rived at his home at 4.45pm in re­sponse to a do­mes­tic abuse re­port by his wife.
