Malaysia backs Ye­men’s ef­forts

Malaysia sup­ports Ye­men’s ef­forts in end­ing the con­flict in the re­pub­lic.

Deputy Prime Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Dr Ah­mad Zahid Hamidi, who met Ye­meni Deputy Prime Min­is­ter Ab­dul­ma­lik Ab­dul Jalil Al-Mekhlafi yes­ter­day, ex­pressed the coun­try’s sup­port for ef­forts un­der­taken by the Ye­men spe­cial en­voy to the United Na­tions.

“Malaysia has con­demned at­tacks against the pub­lic and in­fra­struc­ture, such as schools and hospi­tals, in Ye­men,” he said.

“Malaysia con­trib­uted US$100,000 (RM445,000) in hu­man­i­tar­ian aid dur­ing the OIC for­eign min­is­ters ex­tra­or­di­nary meet­ing in Jed­dah in 2015.”

As of March 1, Zahid said there were 5,779 Ye­meni stu­dents in Malaysia and 300 Malaysian stu­dents in Ye­men.
