State has RM1b in investments from 48 manufacturing projects

New Straits Times - - Business -

PERLIS, which has about RM1 billion of investments parked in its manufacturing projects, is well-positioned to offer tremendous opportunities, said Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

A big venture is the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) cargo terminal facility in Padang Besar.

“As the logistics industry forms the backbone of supply chains, the upgraded facility will act as an enabler towards providing a more effective service delivery and enhance the overall supply chain process. This will contribute towards elevating the operational efficiencies of the businesses in Perlis,” said Mida chief executive officer Datuk Dr Azman Mahmud in a statement, in conjunction with the groundbreaking of the KTMB facility expansion yesterday.

He said the state’s proximity to Thailand and Indonesia, as well as states in the northern corridor, made Perlis a highly strategic investment location.

There are 48 manufacturing projects in Perlis, with total investments of RM1.03 billion.
