Nazri agrees to de­bate with Dr M

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mo­hamed Nazri Ab­dul Aziz has agreed to a de­bate with Tun Dr Ma­hathir Mo­hamad on con­tro­ver­sies in­volv­ing Bu­mi­put­era Malaysia Fi­nance and 1Malaysia Devel­op­ment Bhd.

The tourism and cul­ture min­is­ter, who is at­tend­ing the In­ter­na­tional Travel Bourse event in Ber­lin, Ger­many, yes­ter­day said he would pre­pare for the de­bate once he re­turned to Malaysia on Mon­day.

“I will ac­cept un­con­di­tion­ally and leave it to Dr Ma­hathir to ar­range ev­ery­thing. My only re­quest is for him to dis­cuss the date with me,” Nazri told the New

Straits Times yes­ter­day.

The for­mer prime min­is­ter has chal­lenged Nazri to a de­bate af­ter re­ject­ing the lat­ter’s challenge to con­test the Langkawi par­lia­men­tary seat.

Dr Ma­hathir, who is Parti Pribumi Ber­satu Malaysia chair­man, was re­cently ap­pointed the party’s Langkawi di­vi­sion chief.

Mean­while, a news por­tal re­ported that Dr Ma­hathir was look­ing for­ward to the de­bate and wanted it to be held in Nazri’s home ground in Padang Ren­gas, Perak.

An aide said de­tails of the ar­range­ment would be sub­mit­ted to Nazri’s of­fice soon for con­fir­ma­tion.
