Torch Run in Manila
THE inaugural Rising Together Baton Run in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games and Asean Para Games (KL2017) will continue in Manila, Philippines tomorrow.
Following the first run in Brunei last week, the baton was passed to the Ambassador of the Philippines to Brunei, Meynardo LB Montealegre in a symbolic handover.
Prior to the first run, the baton was handed to the president of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, Prince Sufri Bolkiah by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
The Rising Together Baton Run in Manila will be flagged off at the Malacanang Palace and will cover a 7.2km route.
The run is scheduled to pass iconic places like Luneta, Rajah Sulayman Park and the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, silver medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will lead the run.
The Malaysian delegation to Manila will be led by Khairy and accompanied by the deputy secretary general of the Sports Ministry, Nik Abd Kadir Nik Mohammad and the chief operating officer of the Malaysian Sea Games Organising Committee (MASOC) Shaiful Zahrin Subhan.
The handover of the baton to the next host country, Laos, will take place at the end of the run in Manila.
After Laos (March 18), the run will move on to Myanmar (March 25).
The 29th edition of the Sea Games will be on Aug 19-31 followed by the 9th Asean Para Games on Sept 17-23.
