Philip­pine ex­ports rise 22.5pc in Jan

Philip­pine ex­ports rose at their quick­est pace in three years in Jan­uary on de­mand for tech­nol­ogy goods and com­modi­ties, while con­tin­u­ing strong im­ports un­der­lined a buoy­ant do­mes­tic econ­omy. Ex­ports in Jan­uary rose 22.5 per cent from a year ear­lier, gain­ing for a sec­ond month in a row, while im­ports jumped 9.1 per cent, data from the Philip­pine Sta­tis­tics Au­thor­ity showed yes­ter­day. Its trade deficit nar­rowed to US$2.314 bil­lion (RM10.3 bil­lion) from US$2.638 bil­lion a year ago.
