Japan rebuffs US car mart demand

New Straits Times - - Business World -

Japan yesterday rejected the United States demands for more access to its car market, saying the government had already taken steps to eliminate tariffs and non-tariff barriers. The rebuff by the government’s top spokesman came in reply to a statement the US submitted to the World Trade Organisation on Wednesday saying, “a variety of non-tariff barriers impede access to Japan’s automotive market”. “This is something that will be settled in our bilateral dialogue,” said chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga.
