48-year-old charged with assault
IPOH: A 48-year-old man was charged in the magistrate’s court here yesterday with causing hurt to his former girlfriend and using criminal force on her.
Voon Chee Wai, 48, who was Perak Chinese Assembly Hall’s secretary, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Siti Hanum Mohamad Sah.
On the first count, Voon was alleged to have voluntarily caused hurt to Chang Yoke Yee, 42, in a room at Kinta Riverfront Hotel here at
2.45am on Dec 18.
If convicted, he faces up to one year’s jail and a fine of up to RM2,000 under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
On the second count, Voon was alleged to have used criminal force on Chang by pulling her hand and forcing her into a lift at the hotel’s basement parking at 3.40am on Dec 18.
The charge under Section 352 of the Penal Code carries a maximum of three months’ jail and a fine of up to RM1,000.
Siti Hanum granted RM2,000 bail for each charge in one surety and fixed April 11 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Sally Chai Mei Ling prosecuted while Ranjit Gill Singh represented the accused.
