Penang Eco 100 run returns
THE Penang Eco 100 endurance race is back for its third edition.
The country’s one of its kind race, the endurance event will be held in rural Bukit Mertajam on May 14.
The participants will run through villages, forests, hilly areas and streams.
The Penang Eco 100 is held in partnership with Italian-based Run The World programme in promoting ultra races in exotic parts of the world.
The two-day Penang Eco 100 competition consists of 50km, 100km and 160km events.
The event has attracted about 550 participants compared to 380 and 470 in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
This year’s participants come from 20 countries including Singapore (27 participants), Indonesia (16), Hong Kong (14), Thailand (nine), China (six), the United States (four), Brunei, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom (three each) and a participant from Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, Kenya, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and about 450 from Malaysia.
State Youth and Sport, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Chong Eng said the Penang Eco 100 endurance race not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also raises funds for charity.
The deadline for entries is March 31. and the entry fees are between RM100 and RM600.
