Pe­nang Eco 100 run re­turns

THE Pe­nang Eco 100 en­durance race is back for its third edi­tion.

The coun­try’s one of its kind race, the en­durance event will be held in ru­ral Bukit Mer­ta­jam on May 14.

The par­tic­i­pants will run through vil­lages, forests, hilly ar­eas and streams.

The Pe­nang Eco 100 is held in part­ner­ship with Ital­ian-based Run The World pro­gramme in pro­mot­ing ul­tra races in ex­otic parts of the world.

The two-day Pe­nang Eco 100 com­pe­ti­tion con­sists of 50km, 100km and 160km events.

The event has at­tracted about 550 par­tic­i­pants com­pared to 380 and 470 in 2015 and 2016 re­spec­tively.

This year’s par­tic­i­pants come from 20 coun­tries in­clud­ing Sin­ga­pore (27 par­tic­i­pants), In­done­sia (16), Hong Kong (14), Thai­land (nine), China (six), the United States (four), Brunei, France, Italy, and the United King­dom (three each) and a par­tic­i­pant from Aus­tralia, Bel­gium, Canada, In­dia, Kenya, the Nether­lands, the Philip­pines, Swe­den and about 450 from Malaysia.

State Youth and Sport, Women, Fam­ily and Com­mu­nity De­vel­op­ment Com­mit­tee chair­man Chong Eng said the Pe­nang Eco 100 en­durance race not only pro­motes a healthy life­style, but also raises funds for char­ity.

The dead­line for en­tries is March 31. and the en­try fees are be­tween RM100 and RM600.
