Driver to be charged with drug-re­lated of­fence to­day

GE­ORGE TOWN: The 19-year-old woman, whose act of driv­ing against traf­fic along the NorthSouth Ex­press­way on Tues­day claimed a life, will be charged at the mag­is­trate’s court in Bukit Mertajam to­day for a drug-re­lated of­fence.

Se­berang Prai Ten­gah district po­lice chief As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab­dul Hamid said she would be charged un­der Sec­tion 15(1) of the Dan- ger­ous Drug Act for ad­min­is­ter­ing drugs into the body.

Po­lice con­firmed on Wed­nes­day that Ng Pei Ven’s urine tested pos­i­tive for am­phet­a­mine. They had also es­tab­lished that she was “hal­lu­ci­nat­ing” at the time of the in­ci­dent.

Nik Ros Azhan said in­ves­ti­ga­tions into the case had been com­pleted and had been handed over to the Deputy Public Pros­e­cu­tor’s Of­fice yesterday morn­ing.
