Police: Girl could have been sexually assaulted
PETALING JAYA: Preliminary investigation into the death of a 2year-old girl has revealed that she could have been sexually abused.
Apart from suffering bruises all over her body, the child was also believed to have been hit by a blunt object, and had tears on her private parts.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Zani Che Din said they were waiting for the post-mortem results to ascertain the cause of the tears.
He also said the infant’s mother and her boyfriend were remanded until Monday to facilitate investigations, while the babysitter would be released today.
Her husband was released on police bail yesterday.
On Tuesday, the babysitter had informed the girl’s mother that the toddler appeared sick and weak. She was sent to University of Malaya Medical Centre where she was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, a neighbour described the four suspects as friendly and nice.
The neighbour said he always saw the girl’s mother fetching her from the babysitter’s house in the evening.
“She would come at 7pm to fetch her daughter.
“We never talked but only exchanged smiles and greetings,” said the neighbour.
