Nur Ayuni shoots down crit­ics with 10m air ri­fle gold

PODIUM Pro­gramme dropout Nur Ayuni Farhana Ab­dul Halim si­lenced her crit­ics by win­ning the women’s 10m air ri­fle gold on the fi­nal day of the Tun Hanif Tro­phy Cham­pi­onships at Subang Shoot­ing Range yes­ter­day.

Nur Ayuni, who was left out of the Podium Pro­gramme last month and in­cluded into the Kita Juara Sea Games pro­gramme, posted a 246.30 to­tal to fin­ish ahead of sec­ond-place Sha­hera Rahim Raja (243.50) and third­place Nur Izazi Rosli (222.20).

Lon­don Olympian Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi failed to sparkle when she fin­ished fourth with a 201.11 series.

Nur Ayuni be­lieves the win yes­ter­day will give her the added mo­ti­va­tion to earn a spot in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games team.

Lufti Oth­man over­came his more il­lus­tri­ous ri­vals to win the men’s 50m ri­fle three-po­si­tion with a 442.10 to­tal in the fi­nal.

The shooter hopes to make the Sea Games squad for a third straight time after fail­ure to win medals in the 2013 Myan­mar and 2015 Sin­ga­pore edi­tions.

Armed Forces were crowned as the over­all cham­pi­ons with a haul of nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals, fol­lowed by Perak (7-3-5) and Pa­hang (4-7-3). Ajitpal Singh
