Nur Ayuni shoots down critics with 10m air rifle gold
PODIUM Programme dropout Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim silenced her critics by winning the women’s 10m air rifle gold on the final day of the Tun Hanif Trophy Championships at Subang Shooting Range yesterday.
Nur Ayuni, who was left out of the Podium Programme last month and included into the Kita Juara Sea Games programme, posted a 246.30 total to finish ahead of second-place Shahera Rahim Raja (243.50) and thirdplace Nur Izazi Rosli (222.20).
London Olympian Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi failed to sparkle when she finished fourth with a 201.11 series.
Nur Ayuni believes the win yesterday will give her the added motivation to earn a spot in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games team.
Lufti Othman overcame his more illustrious rivals to win the men’s 50m rifle three-position with a 442.10 total in the final.
The shooter hopes to make the Sea Games squad for a third straight time after failure to win medals in the 2013 Myanmar and 2015 Singapore editions.
Armed Forces were crowned as the overall champions with a haul of nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals, followed by Perak (7-3-5) and Pahang (4-7-3). Ajitpal Singh
