Best ju­niors for Pe­nang meet

THE Pe­nang BA are all set to host the first leg of the Cel­com Ax­i­ata Na­tional Un­der-21 Cham­pi­onships at the PBA Hall in Ge­orge Town.

Lead­ing the pack in the five-day cham­pi­onships which start on Satur­day is the newly crowned na­tional women’s cham­pion Ti­naah Mu­ralitha­ran, who is seeded sec­ond in the girls’ sin­gles. Kisona Sel­vadu­ray is the top seed.

Or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee chair­man Kah Kau Kiak said the event car­ries a to­tal cash prize of RM21,800. The com­pe­ti­tion has at­tracted 258 play­ers.

Pe­nang have the largest con­tin­gent with 40 play­ers while Se­lan­gor and the BA of Malaysia have each 32 play­ers.

The boys’ sin­gles has 129 play­ers, while the boys’ dou­bles, girls’ sin­gles and dou­bles, and the mixed dou­bles con­sist of 64 pairs, 53 play­ers, 21 pairs and 31 pairs re­spec­tively.

The cham­pi­onships con­sist of two legs with the sec­ond event to be held in Pa­hang in Oc­to­ber. K. Kan­diah
