Injury havoc for team
AS Sea Games draw near, the men’s national rugby sevens squad have been hit by injuries following a string of tournaments which included the recent Borneo Sevens that saw disastrous results.
The national squad’s campaign came to an end when they were beaten by Sri Lanka
(26-5) in the plate semi-finals where four players suffered injuries.
Muhamad Firdaus Tarmizi suffered a blow to his ribs while Nik Mohd Shahiddan Mohd Zain sustained a knee injury which is suspected to be an anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
Muhammad Azwan Zuwairi Mat Zizi is out for a few weeks after he sprained an ankle and Muhammad Zulhisham Rasli is suffering from hemorrhoids that has him sidelined.
Despite the injuries, head coach Mohd Saizul Hafifi Md Noor remains optimistic.
“The team’s performance is getting better, as well as their fitness level and the chemistry between the boys is improving,” said Saizul.
Prior to the Borneo tournament, the injury list was at a headcount of three with Zulkiflee Azmi, Muhammad Siddiq Amir Jalil and Mohamad Nur Azri Azmi sidelined.
