SHAZALLI RAMLY IS TELEKOM MALAYSIA’S NEW MD, GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
With Bazlan as deputy CEO, telco has ‘formidable team’ to drive company to next stage of growth
IN arguably the biggest corporate news so far this year, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) yesterday named Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly as its new managing director and group chief executive officer (CEO), with effect from May 1.
This follows the retirement of group CEO Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa on April 30.
TM also announced that group chief financial officer Datuk Bazlan Osman had been appointed as executive director and deputy group CEO, effective April 1.
Chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob said the board unanimously agreed with Shazalli’s appointment, saying he was the right person to help execute TM’s strategic priorities.
“The board is very confident that TM has the leadership to drive it to the next stage of growth. The group looks forward to continue on our next transformation trajectory into Malaysia’s convergence champion,” said Sulaiman in a statement.
A veteran telco analyst said it was about time TM had a CEO who was a big personality and could really bring excitement to the group.
“This is timely, especially since TM is attempting to carve out a share in the mobile telecommunications space with webe. He is a man with lots of ideas, in contrast to TM’s present leadership that is seen as conservative,” the analyst told NST Business.
Meanwhile, Sulaiman said Shazalli brought with him the energy, drive and industry knowhow to build on the strong foundation established by Zamzamzairani.
“Together with Bazlan as his deputy, this dynamic duo makes for a formidable team.”
He also praised Zamzamzairani for his vast contributions.
“Zamzamzairani is a true TM career man, from his first job right to the top position of the group. He left for a short time, but then re-joined the group and devoted his attention in bringing TM to where it is now. He has been a transformative leader and his passion for TM inspires a sense of belonging and purpose among Warga TM.”
Sulaiman also singled out Bazlan for his contributions, saying that as group CFO, he had developed a strong financial team.
“Datuk Bazlan is emblematic of the deep leadership bench strength we have developed at TM, and I could not be more pleased about his appointment to this critical role,” he said.
TM said financial controller Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali would cover the duties of group CFO, effective April 1, until the appointment of a new group CFO.
