JOHOR folk are thrilled their ruler is helping to develop an affordable housing scheme called “Rumah Impian Sultan Ibrahim”. They hoped conditions for applicants would not be too strict and would include private-sector workers who have no homes.
Many thanked Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for championing an important cause, describing the housing scheme as akin to having their wish come true.
Some Johoreans, who were excited after hearing the news on TV3 and other Media Prima Bhd television networks, came a day early to the launch venue of the housing scheme at Galleria@Kotaraya shopping mall here.
Boo Ah Maan, 65, from Skudai, said she was elated and hoped her daughter would be able to purchase a home from the scheme, which is being developed by the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation.
“This is truly a great gift for all. Not all Chinese Malaysians can afford to buy a house because prices have skyrocketed.”
Cleaner Nor Intan Mohd Shariff, 48, from Kempas, said she was living in a transit home in Seri Tropika as she was forced to move out from her squatter house 17 years ago.
“I hope there are no strict restrictions on buyers. It will be unfair if only government servants qualify for the scheme.”
Retired civil servant Mohd Razali Hamzah, 65, said he wanted to be the first in line tomorrow during the registration process.
The Galleria@Kotaraya concourse area yesterday was mobbed by excited housebuyers as early as 7.30am who had mistaken the date for the home registration, which begins today with a soft launch conducted by Sultan Ibrahim.
In an exclusive interview with the Media Prima Bhd group at the Flintstone Palace in Mersing recently, Sultan Ibrahim said the people of Johor would receive a special gift from him in the form of a housing scheme that would be built under the auspices of the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation.
The houses will be priced below RM100,000 and there will be 1,840 homes, including landed bungalows and semi-detached units, that will be built in phases in three areas here.
Affordable homes under the ‘Rumah Mampu Milik Johor’ scheme in Taman Daya, Johor Baru. The ‘Rumah Impian Sultan Ibrahim’ scheme will make available more homes for Johoreans.
