Datuk Seri, 11 oth­ers, claim trial to ri­ot­ing

GEORGE TOWN: “Keep Datuk Seri away from the click­ing cam­eras.”

Th­ese words were heard in the mag­is­trate’s court here yes­ter­day as 12 in­di­vid­u­als, in­clud­ing a Datuk Seri, were led away in hand­cuffs from the court­room af­ter they were charged with ri­ot­ing.

Ear­lier, the 12 pleaded not guilty when they were jointly charged be­fore mag­is­trate Mo­hamed Amin Shahul Hamid with ri­ot­ing, to­gether with sev­eral oth­ers still at large.

Ban Chuan, 46, Datuk Seri Loh Peng Kok, 35, Ng Hao Ning, 29, Muhamad Naim Ab­dull Rah­man, 18, J. Shatheeswaran, 24, N. Kar­tiga, 26, Cur­tis Veeran, 19, Tan Teong Boon, 24, Teoh Chee Seng, 36, Siow Peir Sheng, 24, Teoh Kim Teik, 20, and Tan Kai Chong, 21, nod­ded when asked if they un­der­stood the charge be­fore hav­ing their plea recorded.

They were al­leged to have com­mit­ted the of­fence in Room E3 of the Sun City KTV Mid­lands en­ter­tain­ment out­let in Jalan Burma here about 3.58am on March 18.
